Interactive Database Walkthrough
- Organization: Grants Office, LLC
- Project Date: January, 2005
- Responsibilities: Design/Code
- URL: Not available for download
- Notes:
It was determined after many help desk calls that we (Grants Office) needed something in the form of an interactive walkthrough to help our new database clients out in understanding how the system works and how to navigate it. I was asked to design/develop a large, detailed interactive walkthrough that we could point new clients to as soon as they purchased their subscriptions to help them learn.
The walkthrough was designed and coded in Flash MX in a series of 22 stand-alone .swf files that were each dynamically loaded and unloaded based on the section you were on. A faux cursor was used to 'guide' the user through the process and important aspects were highlighted and circled while unimportant aspects were blurred and faded out of sight. Help desk calls definitely decreased after this applets creation and is still being used as an educational tool to both clients and new-hires alike at Grants Office.
